ETS Delivers To One Of The UK’s Largest Solar Parks

January 3, 2016 by admin

More than 11,000 average-sized homes are now benefiting from one of the largest solar parks in the UK.
The 49.9MW Solar Park in West Raynham, Norfolk – built on the site of a former RAF airfield – has the advantage that it is well screened from the countryside and residential properties.

ETS worked with the EPC and other specialist contractors to supply tooling and accessories for the installation / termination of low and medium voltage power cables across the site.

Typical products that ETS supplied on this and continue to supply on other Solar farm projects include: Cembre Marking Genius for cable and equipment identification, Cembre bi-metallic lugs, Pfisterer SICON connectors, along with Euromold Medium voltage separable connectors.

ETS also supplied plant from its extensive hire fleet to assist with the cable pulling and crimping.

Due to the fast track construction timescale of these projects, ETS ensures high levels of stock are held to ensure prompt next day delivery.

Ellis Fire Proof Cable Cleats Installed At Canary Wharf

October 8, 2015 by admin

Fire proof cable cleats manufactured in Yorkshire by Ellis have been installed throughout the new BP4 Tower at Canary Wharf, London.

The BP4 tower development at 25 Churchill Place, Canary Wharf, is a 23 storey tower comprising of 530,000 sq. ft. of high quality commercial accommodation. The building is designed to achieve an “Excellent” BREEAM rating.

Designed specifically for installation with fire protection (FP) rated cables, the Phoenix cleats are made from 316L stainless steel and are both fire proof and corrosion resistant. They were specified by Hilson Moran through Ellis’ UK distributor, ETS Cable Components and installed by electrical contractor, Phoenix ME Limited.

Preventing The Loss Of Vital Services

“In order for FP rated cables to continue working in an emergency they need to remain intact and in place,” said Ellis’ UK sales director, Paul Nolan.

“If these cables aren’t properly restrained then the risks are clear – the loss of vital services and the likelihood of live cables falling and causing potentially lethal hazards.”

Fire Performance Tests

Working in conjunction with Exova Warringtonfire, BRE and ETS, Ellis initially developed its Phoenix range in 2011.Prior to launch the products underwent a wide range of tests, including exposure to fire, impact and water spray, all of which combined to ensure that the range offers fire protection to the same level as the cables it is installed to protect.

“Any building should strive to ensure that the products used to protect the emergency systems are the best available, but when you consider BP4 is a 130-metre, 23-storey, 530,000 sq. ft. development in the heart of one of London’s key business districts then it’s fair to say that in this instance it was an absolute imperative,” continued Paul.

Changing Regulations

During 2013, Ellis called for a ban on the use of plastic products as the sole means of cable support in areas where fallen cables may put fire fighters’ lives at risk. This widely publicised call has resulted in a forthcoming change to building regulations.

“Everything we do, whether with Phoenix or our other products, is done with safety at the forefront of our minds,” added Paul. “Electrical cables are dangerous and need to be restrained in a manner that ensures they don’t become a danger to others.”

Power Cable Accessories Supplier ETS Helps Restore Power To West End

April 21, 2015 by admin

Leading power cable accessories supplier ETS Cable Components, and cleat manufacturer, Ellis, pulled out all the stops to help restore power back to the West End after a major underground fire.

Thousands of people had to be evacuated and many theatre performances were cancelled when flames started shooting out from an inspection cover in Holborn on Wednesday 1 April.

Over the Easter Bank holiday weekend, there was a major push to restore power as quickly as possible to the central London electricity network. ETS were called to supply Emperor cleats, support brackets and relevant fixings, which would be used to fix the replacement high voltage cables in place. ETS delivered these items within two hours of receiving the call via their emergency weekend phone service.

Cleat manufacturer – Ellis – then agreed to start production at a moment’s notice, despite the Easter shutdown, to provide additional cleats. ETS then made arrangements to have the finished products delivered to the affected area in Central London promptly, despite the logistics involved with various road closures in place. “We pride ourselves on going the extra mile – this is another example of exceptional teamwork,” said Operations Director Kevin Moloney.

ETS have been supplying power cable accessories for more than 25 years across a range of sectors including rail, renewables, industrial and data centres. You can see all of the ETS cable cleats range by clicking here.

Emperor Cable Cleats Chosen For Gwynt y Môr Offshore Wind Farm

July 3, 2013 by admin

Emperor cable cleats from Yorkshire manufacturer, Ellis Patents are being installed on RWE npower renewables’ Gwynt y Môr Offshore Wind Farm, which is under construction eight miles off the North Wales coast.

The two billion euro development is currently one of the largest offshore construction projects anywhere in Europe and when operational in 2014 will feature 160 turbines, which will generate enough energy to meet the annual demands of 400,000 homes.

Ellis’ Emperor cable cleats were specified by RWE through its UK distributor, ETS Cable Components.

Paul Nolan, Ellis’ UK sales director, said: “This is the kind of project that as soon as it’s announced it becomes imperative you secure the specification for it.”

“Not only is it one of the biggest construction projects in Europe, but I strongly believe it will play a major role in placing wind power at the forefront of renewable energy source for years to come.”

Based in London, ETS is a specialist distributor of power cable accessories, components,  and equipment. The company was a founder member of Ellis’ worldwide network of distributors and has recently helped to secure specifications on projects such as London Array and West Burton Power Station.

“Our network of distributors plays a vital role in the success of Ellis, and in ETS we have a partner that has been opening doors and helping us to secure important contracts for over 20-years,” added Nolan.

Ellis’ cable cleats are designed and manufactured wholly in the UK and are used to secure electrical cables in a manner that can withstand the forces generated by the cables, including those generated during a short circuit fault. Its Emperor cleats not only provide ultimate corrosion protection, even in the harshest of environments, but they are quick and easy to install, and feature an integral LSF zero halogen polymeric liner and base pad that protects and cushions cables during short circuit conditions.

ETS Help Supply The Shard

June 10, 2013 by admin

The Shard, also known as the Shard of Glass is a brand new skyscraper next to London Bridge. Construction work began in March 2009 and was completed in March 2012, opening to the public in February this year. Standing at an impressive 309.6 meters (1,016 ft), the Shard is the tallest building in Western Europe.

ETS were proud to help supply this iconic building and we take a look back at what products we supplied for the project.

We originally submitted samples and data sheets for approval in 2008. Working with both the main contractor and consultant to provide suitable products that would compliment the high quality engineering standards of the project design, as well as stand the test of time.

On this basis, the products short listed for approval were provided by CMP, Ellis Patents and Cembre. It was felt each of these manufacturers provided stringent enough product testing to ensure that cabling contractors would be able to deliver the highest quality installation.

The Shard was also awarded ‘Major Building Project of the Year’ (Over £50m) at the British Construction Industry (BCI) awards 2013.
