LV Heat Shrink Straight Cable Joint Kits

October 10, 2014 by

Using components from our heat shrink tubing range, our standard Low Voltage (LV) heat shrink joint kits are suitable for XLPE/SWA/LSF 600/1000v power cables. For use in exposed environments or buried applications.

The slimline profile of these joint kits makes them ideal for vertical jointing and use in confined areas such as cable trays. Also allow for immediate back-filling and/or energisation.

Custom straight joint variants are available for transitional or trifurcating jointing. Virtually any cable combination can be accommodated, e.g. XLPE to PILC transition joint incorporating mechanical connectors. Please contact us for more information about special orders.

Standard joint sizes listed below are suitable for 4core SWA cables and can be installed with both with mechanical core connectors and compression splices, please order these as extra items.

The range has further been developed to incorporate four specially-designed joints to suit single-core XLPE/AWA/LSF 600/1000v cables, also shown below.

Pfisterer SICON Mechanical Cable Connectors

October 10, 2014 by

Pfisterer SICON screw connectors are used to connect solid or stranded, copper or aluminium conductors in Medium Voltage (MV) applications between 11kV-33kV.

These mechanical cable splices suit all Cold Shrink and Heat Shrink cable joints. The blocked designed prevents the migration of moisture, oils and greases.

The SICON connector has a number of features making it a highly specified product:

  • Smooth breakage of the shear bolt simplifies the tightening process.
  • Shear bolt breaks off flush with the connector body, no need for port-hole filling.
  • Superior compressive force, even suitable for Class 5 fine-stranded conductors.
  • Internally grooved to aid electrical connection and protect against conductor oxidisation.
  • Blocked design to provide an oil or water barrier.
  • Shears at Torque level of 52Nm (+/-7Nm).

Certain sizes of the Pfisterer SICON inline connector range are Network Rail PADS approved, please refer to our datasheet for more information.

Q&A: When Should A Hazardous Area Cable Joint Be Used?

February 25, 2014 by admin

Question:

In what situation and applications should I use a Hazardous Area cable joint over a standard resin-filled joint?

Answer:

A Hazardous Area joint kit should be used if you have a requirement for your cable jointing solution, to be flame retardant, halogen-free or hydrocarbon resistant.

All of our 3M Hazardous Area joints have been tested extensively to prove their performance within hazardous and harsh environments and the effects of hydrocarbons and chemical solvents on resins and joint bodies.

The LVI-3 range of cable joints have been successfully installed within ATEX rated Hazardous Area including mines and quarries, underground applications, petrochemical sites and offshore areas where there is a risk of flame or explosion.

The specialist joint shell, which is flame retardant, hydrocarbon resistant and halogen free, is filled with a specially designed polyurethane resin, which is a highly modified joint resin mix, which makes the resin flame retardant, halogen free and virtually unaffected by immersion in either hydrocarbon or chemical solvent solutions.
