National Electrotechnical Training (NET) – Cable Jointing Assessment Supported by ETS Cable Components

National Electrotechnical Training (NET) is now offering the Cable Jointing Assessment of Competence, which ETS Cable Components are delighted to be able to support.  The assessments currently take place at NET’s Harlow centre, which is situated just outside London, and cable accessories along with tools are supplied by ETS.

The Cable Jointing Assessment is designed for individuals who wish to practice as an L.V. Cable Jointer. It demonstrates that they have the level of competence expected by the industry in the following key occupational areas:

  • Risk Assessment, including COSHH requirements
  • Safe Isolation and Permit to Work
  • Completion of a gland and termination into a TP&N Switch Enclosure with a 90-degree bend
  • Completion of a 4 Core Through Joint
  • Testing of the installation for Insulation Resistance and Continuity
  • Completion of Documentation to include BS 7671 Schedule of Test Results Completion of Hand Over Documentation
  • Assessment of Underpinning Knowledge
  • The understanding and application of industry recognised procedures, working practices and the requirements of statutory and non-statutory regulations

Please note that the cable jointing assessment is not organised by ETS, but we are proud to lend our support to an initiative which we believe will benefit the Cable Jointing sector and the wider electrical industry.

Video Footage Of The World’s Largest Floating Solar Farm

Built on the QE2 reservoir, near London’s Heathrow Airport, this solar farm has a peak output of 6.3 megawatts and is expected to generate 5.8 million kilowatt hours in its first year – equivalent to the annual consumption of around 1,800 homes.

Due to the typical fast track nature of solar farms, ETS played a vital role during the construction phase by delivering relevant products, such as MV terminations on a same day basis helping to ensure that the project was completed in time and operational in March this year.

The energy generated by this farm will be used to power nearby water treatment plants operated by Thames Water who are aiming to self-generate a third of their own energy by 2020. The video is supplied courtesy of Lightsource Renewable Energy who delivered this ambitious project and were responsible for installation of 23,000 plus solar panels.

Ellis No Bolts Cleat

ETS Cable Components are proud to be part of the development and subsequent launch of a new range of cleats which requires no conventional fixings to supporting steel-work.

The design also allows for additional cleats to be stacked on top of one another with nothing more than a small turn of a unique fixing lock.

Nexans Euromold 430TB Installation Video

This installation video provides instructions on the correct cable preparation procedure and installation of 430TB elbow connectors.

Emperor Cable Cleat Short-Circuit Test

This video clip demonstrates the strength of our Emperor trefoil cleats under short-circuit conditions.

A short-circuit of 59kA RMS (118kA peak) is passed down the three-phase arrangement for a period of 0.1 seconds, showing the cables being forced apart by the physical forces present under such conditions and demonstrating the need for correct cable restraint.

LSF Cable Gland Shroud Comparison

This video shows two different kinds of cable gland shrouds being put under a flame test. One shroud is an imported LSF version the other is a genuine CMP LSF gland shroud.

Heat Shrink Vs Cold Shrink Cable Joints

The debate between Heat Shrink and Cold Shrink has always been split. We don’t believe that one method is more superior to the other, but each have their own benefits and suit different installations.

The video compares Heat Shrink and Cold Shrink cable jointing procedures, showing how to carry out each method.

Alpha Trefoil Cable Cleat Short-Circuit Test

This video shows our popular Alpha trefoil cleat undergoing short-circuit testing to and four different fault levels, comparing these results with similar test where the cables are restrained with cable ties.

Fault levels tested, with cables cleated every 600mm:

  • 30kA RMS
  • 35kA RMS
  • 40kA RMS
  • 45kA RMS

Ideally suitable for all commercial and industrial applications and fast becoming the industry leader in securing single-core cables in trefoil formation, the Alpha is suitable for installations where modest levels of short-circuit protection capability are required.

Stainless Steel Cable Ties Short-Circuit Test

This video shows the same short-circuit (59kA RMS) passed down a similar cable arrangement, but fastened with stainless steel cables ties and aptly demonstrates the need for using the correct cable cleat for your application.

Emperor Trefoil Cable Cleat – (Short Circuit 118kA)

This video clip demonstrates the strength of the Ellis Patents Emperor trefoil cleats under short-circuit conditions.

A short-circuit of 59kA RMS (118kA peak) is passed down the three-phase arrangement for a period of 0.1 seconds, showing the cables being forced apart by the physical forces present under such conditions and demonstrating the need for correct cable restraint.

Looking For Exothermic Welding Materials?

Looking For Exothermic Welding Materials?

Exothermic Welding Materials

Used on rail applications throughout the world, exothermic welding involves working with high temperatures and therefore can be extremely dangerous. If you’re looking for an exothermic welding training course, we have an in-house training school which is available through nVent ERICO Cadweld.

Our in-house training is designed to teach the correct applications of the CADWELD welding system. With practical demonstrations and supervised exothermic welding, you will have the opportunity to learn the accurate, safe and effective operation of welding systems, and how to use the necessary tools to make a connection. All weld materials and demonstration equipment is provided by ETS. At the end of the course, you will leave with a certificate and training card.

If you’re buying exothermic welding materials, you’ll find everything you need at ETS Cable Components.

ETS Cable Components are authorised UK stockist and distributors of nVent ERICO Cadweld exothermic welding products. The welding systems in particular provide superior, molecularly bonded connections compared to traditional connections. This ensures the connections are resistant to corrosion issues as a result of thermal conditions, which are usually associated with mechanical or compression materials.

From our nVent ERICO range, we supply exothermic welding materials including CADWELD traditional weld-metals, CADWELD PLUS weld-metals and CADWELD XF-19 weld-metals. CADWELD PLUS weld-metals are available in many different volumes depending on the mould size being used.

We also stock nVent ERICO Cadweld moulds and clamps, ignition and installation tools, and installation wrap sleeves. We also have the CADWELD MULTI which simplifies the exothermic welding process by enabling 35 separate connection types within the same mould body. This makes it ideal for smaller projects where the purchase of individual moulds would not be a cost-effective option.

For more information on the different nVent ERICO Cadweld ranges, read CADWELD Welding Systems where you can find out which product group is ideal for your project.

View our range of Exothermic Welding Materials today or call us on 020 8405 6789 with your product or project queries. We’re here to help.
