The Centaur Cable Saddles from Ellis Patents haver been designed as a solution for cleating large diameter High Voltage power transmission cables, typically 275kV or 400kV. Generally installed within tunnels and affixed to supporting steel work, the Centaur Saddles accommodate sibgle-core cables in flat formation from 100mm up to 162mm outsider diameter.

Consisting of an extruded and pressed aluminium saddle and a hinged aluminium overstrap which incorporates a LSF Zero Halogen (LSZH) nylon liner to cushion and protect the cables in the event of a short-circuit occurring. The saddle itself is curved to accomodate the thermal expansion of the cable, the ends of the saddle are also flared so that the cable never comes into contact with a sharp edge.

Centaur is the only cable saddle that has been subjected to, and passed, the most rigorous of testing procedures. The cleats were tested to 162kA peak (63kA RMS) for one second, in both three-phase and phase-to-phase installations. A full KEMA test report is available upon request.

These cable tunnel cleats are available in lengths of either 400mm, 600mm and 800mm to allow for different cable diameters and mounting centres. Intermediate short-circuit straps are also available as part of the system to maintain the flat formation spacing, as well as a roller system for easy cable installation.
